The Ogun State Police Command on Sunday arrested Pastor Taiwo of the Celestial Church of Christ (Key of Joy Parish), who chained down his son Korede in the church for two weeks.

Korede’s stepmother, Kehinde, accused him of stealing meat from the soup pot, following which his father, Pastor Taiwo put him in chains.

A concerned neighbour has called the Ogun state Command of the Nigerian Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) on surveillance patrol of critical infrastructure at Ajibawo village along Atan-Ota in Ado-Odo Ota Local government area of the State to Korede’s situation.

The NSCDC rescued Korede after initial resistance by members of the church, but Pastor Taiwo escaped.

Muyiwa Adejobi, Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Ogun State command confirmed that Pastor Taiwo was arrested on Sunday morning.

The NSCDC took the boy to their office for necessary entries and documentation before taking him to the General Hospital, Ota.

The hospital had to make necessary calls to the security agencies on whether to cut the chains before they could administer treatment.

Dr. Osinbajo, Medical Director of the hospital said Korede was responding to treatment, and promised that the boy will get necessary medical attention.

Meanwhile, the Corps has since liase with the police at Atan, who promised to continue with the investigation and do all necessary things needed.

When contacted, the NSCDC Public Relations Officer, CSC Kareem Olanrewaju confirmed the incident said the corps handed over the matter to the police for further investigation.

He said that Korede, Kehinde, his stepmother, and the chain with padlock have been handed over to the police.

According to him, the circumstance under which Korede was kept and rescued was not among those under the mandate of NSCDC to prosecute “so, it has to be handed over to the appropriate agency.”

He added that when an information is received, the agency received such must act and handover to appropriate agency having direct jurisdiction.
