Police Arrest Fake DSP, 43 MASSOB Members In Anambra

The police in Anambra state has said that it has arrested a 32-year old man who impersonated as a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP), and went about  extorting money from unsuspecting members of the public to assist them get recruited into the Nigeria Police Force(NPF).
This was part of the briefing of the state Commissioner of Police, Mr. Hosea Karma to the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of zone 9, Umuahia, Abia state, Mr. Usman Gwary who paid a visit to the police command at the state police command headquarters, Amawbia, near Awka, the state capital yesterday.
Karma also said that the command arrested 43 members of the Movement for the Actualization of the Sovereign State of Biafra ( MASSOB).

In his address to the men of the state police command, Gwary said his visit was in response to the directive of the Inspector General of Police (IG), Mr. Solomon Arase that he should tour police headquarters in the zone to lecture them on the new security policy of the present administration.

He stated that South East zone from recent investigation conducted by a special team set up by the IG was rated among the most peaceful zones in the country and warned officers and men of the state command not to engage in acts that would compromise peaceful atmosphere prevailing in the state.
While  urging the police officers to place their loyalty to the Force and Nigerian nation above any other consideration or sentiment, Gwary warned them to ensure that they do not allow MASSOB members to disturb the prevailing peaceful atmosphere in the state and commended the state police Command in its efforts in flushing out criminal elements from the area.

He advised them to follow religiously the various security policies marshaled out by the IG, Gwary also called on the police command to work seriously in collaboration with other sister agencies.
He commended the state governor, Chief Willie Obiano for the various forms of support his administration had given the police command saying ” Since we can’t thank him ( Governor Obiano) enough, all we shall do is to continue thanking him”.

Earlier in his welcome address, CP Karma had enumerated the various problems confronting the command to including the physical structure and location of the state command, lack of police barracks and shortage of man- power.

While parading the suspected fake DSP who gave his name as Abdul Makong, from Karim Lamido in Taraba state, Karma stated that the suspect who had just finished a prison term last April after he was convicted in 2013 in connection with an offence of impersonation stated that the suspect was arrested following a tip off when he went to the palace of a traditional ruler in Awka-South local government area of the state, urging the people to bring some money so that he could get interested members of the community get recruited into the police force.

karma, however warned members of the public to beware of the likes of Makong, stating that recruitment into the Nigeria police force has transparent process devoid of any corrupt manipulation.

In an Interview by newsmen, Makong confessed that he just came out of the prison last April and that he is a graduate of the Nnamdi Azikiwe University( NAU), Awka, where he obtained a certificate in Political Science in 2008, but, that he was force to go into crime because he could not get a gainful  employment opportunity, and that it was a friend who lured him into impersonation#
