Police Arrest Dealer Over Vandalization Of PHCN Cables

Enugu – An electrical parts dealer, Chibuike Chukwu has been arrested by the police in Enugu for vandalizing electricity cables in various parts of the state.

The suspect was arrested following a tip-off from some concerned members of the public who sent a distress call to the Enugu State Police Command.

Ebere Amaraizu, police public relations officer, Enugu State Police Command, while confirming the incident said that “a suspected electric transformer vandal, identified as one Chibuike Nwosu, a father of five is now helping men of the Enugu State command in their investigations in relation with his nefarious activities in Enugu and environs.

According to Amaraizu, the suspect was nabbed by the operatives at the early hours of Tuesday with the partnership of members of the community who had raised distress call to the police.

He disclosed that the suspect admitted his involvement in the act but said he was not alone in the business. Amaraizu said the suspect revealed the names and addresses of his cohorts who specialized in vandalization of electric transformer armoured cables within Emene Enugu and its environs.

“The Suspect further stated that he deals on electrical parts and through which he knew the co-suspect identified as one Paul Ike who is now at large.

“He also maintained that he buys and places the materials for sale in his shop located at Kenyata Market Enugu for the purchase by electrical company engineers and that he was at the scene by 4am to pick up the materials before he was rounded up.”

Amaraizu stated that the suspect was regretting the act just and blamed Satan for his involvement in the act.

Meanwhile, Enugu state police commissioner, Emmanuel Ojukwu has applauded the efforts of the police operatives and that of the members of the community for their vigilance and prompt response leading to the arrest of the hoodlums and recovery of the transformer cables.

Ojukwu promised that the police will stop at nothing towards ensuring that the rest of the culprits involved in the case are arrested and brought to book.

He urged all the communities in the state to be security conscious and partner with the police and sister Agencies and continue to exercise vigilance towards their installations.
