Police in Oyo State have arrested suspected 18-man gang allegedly paid to disrupt the Saturday’s Presidential and National Assembly elections in Ibadan. State Commissioner of Police, Mr Muhammad Katsina, who made this known when he spoke to newsmen, said the suspects were arrested at Mapo area of Ibadan.

“The atmosphere of peace that was created during the Saturday’s election was temporarily distorted by the activities of a deadly cult gang,’’ he said. Katsina, who said the group known as `one million boys’ at Mapo, said the armed suspects attacked innocent people of the area.

“A special team made up of a special force from Abuja on patrol swiftly intervened and brought the situation under control.

“They engaged the group and 18 of them were arrested,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that cutlasses, broken bottles, charms, bullets and tires were recovered from them. Katsina, however, said some of the cult members were still at large, and advised the ones at large to submit themselves before the police track them down.

“The police will not rest until the remaining members of the cult are caught and brought to book,’’ he said.

He urged the public to assist the police with information that could be used to track the remaining gang members in good time.

One of the suspects, Ramoni Saka, who spoke to NAN, said he was paid to disrupt the area.
