Police Arrest 1, 091 In Niger

Niger State Police Command in the past six months arrested a total of 1, 091 criminal suspects, get 666 convicted and 251 awaiting trials out of the 785 reported cases of criminal related activities that occurred across the 25 local governments in the state.

The state Commissioner of Police (CP), Mr. Olusola Emanuel Amore disclosed this while briefing journalists on the activities of his men between January and June 2015.

He added that 56 of the cases were under investigations.

Among those arrested were four men who tried to bribe him with N1 concerning a case involving an armed robber, syndicate and some bank officials arrested for being in possession of fake currency.

The CP said the command also recovered different brands of cars and motorcycles stolen by suspected criminals at different places in the state.

He enjoined parents not to abandon their parental roles at the detriment of their wards who may easily become prey to people of questionable character.

He regretted that most of the crimes committed in the state involved youths at their productive ages.

“Well groomed children will translate into a better community, better state and a better future for Nigeria. 13 youths are in police custody for various cases of gangsterism, particularly in Minna the state capital” he said.

The police boss however solicited the continued support of other security agencies, vigilante groups, traditional rulers and other stakeholders to combat crime in the state.
