A 20-year-old man, Usman Adamu, who allegedly attempted to steal a motorcycle at a party, has been arraigned before the Gudu Upper Area Court in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).

The accused, a resident of Waru Village, Apo, Abuja, is standing trial on a charge of attempted stealing.

Police prosecutor, Shedrack Dauda, told the court that a police patrol attached to Apo Divisional Headquarters arrested the accused and brought him to Apo Police Station on March 29.

He said some youths at Waru had organised a party where motorcycles were parked by the attendees.

“The accused attempted to steal one of the motorcycles and was arrested by some policemen.

“He could not give a satisfactory account of himself when he was caught …a knife was recovered from him when he was searched.’’

The prosecutor said the offence contravened Section 95 of the Penal Code.

The accused pleaded not guilty. The judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 with a reliable surety.

He said the surety should reside within the court’s jurisdiction as part of the bail conditions.

Further hearing in the case has been adjourned to May 7.

In a related development, a 28-year-old man, Abdulkarim Muhammad, has appeared before a Wuse Zone 6 Senior Magistrates’ Court for allegedly stealing clothes worth N15,000 belonging to his neighbours.

The accused, a resident of Mpape in Abuja, was arraigned by the police before Senior Magistrate Hawa Aliyu, on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and stealing.
