Lagos – Former champions, Kano Pillars, will be at home to Lobi Stars of Maiduguri in one of the week 26 matches on Sunday. Pillars have had a chequered campaign in the second stanza of the league.

The Masai Gida have lost three times in the last five encounters, with Sunday’s 1-2 loss to Akwa United at the Nest of Champions, Uyo, being the huge sore point after scoring first and early in the match.

But the former CAF Champions League campaigners’ 5-0 whitewash of Abia Warriors on June 26 was a huge boost to their title push. Pillars are occupying the fifth place on the log with 36 points from 24 matches and will fancy their chances against eighth-placed Lobi, which have also lost three times in the last five matches.

The Makurdi war lords, who beat Haertland 2-0 on Sunday after suffering two successive defeats against El-Kanemi Warriors and Sunshine Stars in two previous Sundays, will obviously depend on the lethal form of Tony Okpotu, who has scored 13 times in the ongoing season.

But the team will find the home side very cracking with the return of Gambo Mohammed and other strikers, who have ensured that the Pyramid side maintains its position as frontrunners in the league.

Lobi Stars have earned 34 points from 23 matches. They have a striker in Okpotu, who can keep them at par against the host .

Idris Malikawa, Pillars media officer, who spoke to Independent on Fridy, said there is a huge motivation to play Lobi, promising that the players will come out with the desired result.

“We are still pushing for the title and that is the motivation going into the match against Lobi Stars in Kano on Sunday. The boys know that the league is still open and that is one motivation to beat Lobi in our home,” he said.
