Struggling league defending champions, Kano Pillars, will this weekend be on the road to Uyo for a date with Akwa United in one of the GLo Premier League Week 17 fixtures.

The Sai Mesu Gida after Week 14 and 15 flops managed a lone goal victory over El Kanemi Warriors at Week 16 to keep hopes alive in the title race where the team is now laced 7th on the table.

The current poor form of Pillars who at the midweek was again sent packing from the 2014 Federation Cup by Plateau United may not be good enough at Akwa United that seemed to have rediscovered their rhythm.

The Uyo side at Week 16 thrashed Enugu Rangers by 2-0 to herald their home invincibility after some weeks of flops that dragged the team down the rung of the league table, 13th spot.

Against this backdrop, it is expected that embattled Pillars coach, Okey Emordi, would have to plan a match strategy that the players can interpret to enable them get a good away result.

Only at the midweek according to reports, the former Rangers and Enyimba coach narrowly escaped being lynched by angry Pillars fans following the team’s recent string of poor results.

In all of these, Emordi has kept hopes alive for the Kano darling club: “I take responsibility for all the bad results but, is not over yet over, the league is still fresh and Pillars will bounce back.”

Indeed, the 90 minutes regulation time would definitely tell how long the teeming fans of Pillars should wait for the team to bounce back.
