Former Chief Coach of the Super Eagles, James Peters, has blamed Super Falcons ouster from the Rio Olympics to the inexperience of the coaches.

Coach Chris Danjuma, who assisted Edwin Okon at the just concluded World Cup in Canada, was asked to take over the team after Okon was sacked.

Speaking in Abuja Peters said that the team failed due to lack of capacity of the bench to motivate the players.

He said that while there was nothing wrong in giving young coaches opportunity to showcase their talents, especially at the national level, he said that it was also reasonable for the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to attach some of the experienced coaches to give them background assistance.

“While it is right to give responsibility to the young coaches, it is good to have experienced old coaches to back them up, not necessarily to sit on the bench but to help them, do some spying for them and design a tactic that will assist the team. This is something we have done in the past.

“The truth is that if they want to assist the country they should do so, they know what to do, the records are there, and I am not lying. They should forget these petty attitude and tribalism because they once told me during the World Cup in Brazil to go to my state to work.”

Asked if recent sack of the former handler, Edwin Okon, has anything to do with it, Peters noted that even though the team had not been playing well in recent times, that it would have been better the NFF had allowed him to conclude the Olympic qualifiers.
