Chairman, All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) Congress Committee, Lagos State, Campbell Umenzekwe, has lashed out at former governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, for dumping the party, saying he acted like a prodigal son.

Obi left APGA for Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) shortly after he completed his tenure as governor. But Umenzekwe said that Obi’s action was borne out of selfishness.

Speaking with Daily Independent, Umenzekwe who insisted that obi’s absence is not affecting the fortunes of the party explained that Obi miscalculated.

According to him, “It is unfortunate that Peter Obi went to another party out of personal interest. Maybe to become minister or senator, that is by the way. This is a man who inherited late Odimegwu Ojukwu political kingdom. It’s like having Ojukwu’s presidential jet in your custody. I will refer you to what Nkuruma of Ghana once said; he said that one should seek political kingdom first and any other thing will be added unto you. Political kingdom is the in thing. You cannot be a king without a kingdom. If you are a king and you have a kingdom, then you can now crown other people. If another king comes to your kingdom, he is coming to negotiate with you. Peter Obi should have remained in APGA and President Goodluck Jonathan would have come and negotiated formerly with APGA.

“He chickened himself out of his kingdom. He was a king with a palace that abandoned his palace. Whatever he wanted President Jonathan to offer, he would have offered it to APGA as a body. Peter Obi, a two-time governor of Anambra state who inherited his father’s kingdom and abandoned it like a prodigal son. Peter Obi is a prodigal son who wasted his father’s birthright for crumbs. Now they offered him Chairman Security and exchange commission. You can see how the mighty has fallen. Obi should apologize to Igbo race.” he said.
