Thousands of disgruntled members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Thursday, August 6, 2015, defected to All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) as the party inaugurated its new executive members led by Chief Nobert Obi.

Those who defected include the immediate former members of the state House of Assembly who represented their constituencies on the platform of PDP and the state chairman of Labour Party.

They are Uchenna Umeris, who represented Dunukofia state constituency; Tokas Ohazurike, who represented Ihiala I state constituency; and the LP chairman, Mr. Ugochukwu Nwimo.

The rest were mainly from Ogbaru Local Government Area. Some of them said that they left the party because they were supporting the former Speaker of the House who is now Commissioner for Environment, Chinwe Nwebili.

The rest, however, said they left PDP because they believe that APGA is truly an Igbo party and they wanted to be with their kit and kin.

They also said there were signs that Governor Willie Obiano was behind him.
