The Governor of Rivers State, Chibuike Amaechi, has said that the People’s Democratic Party {PDP}  led government intended to persecute or jail  him over his disagreement with the Federal Government if they had won the last presidential elections. Amaechi made the disclosure on Thursday during the launching of a bookn in Lagos titled: “Dynamics of Change, The Amaechi Years.”

The book which chronicled Amaechi’s landmark achievement as governor of Rivers State from 2007 to 2015 was edited by Dr. Chidi Amuta and Dr. Yemi Ogunbiyi.

“The federal government has given a signal that nobody should be allowed out of the country if they win the elections,” he stated. Contrary to many peoples’ opinion, Amaechi stated that he is not stubborn as believed in some quarters because a stubborn person does not agree with even superior arguments.

“I am not a stubborn man because I listen and submit to superior arguments every time.” Ameachi commended the leadership of APC for leading a successful civilian coup in Nigeria.

He stated that he met the leader of the party, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, severally on the need to work for the victory of the party in order to save his political career and life. I would have been the greatest loser if APC did not win the last elections.”

According to Rivers State government the struggle for change was not for the sake of personal gain but to liberate the country from the shackles of misrule. He further explained that his misunderstanding with the federal government was not on personal ground but has to do with the people of Rivers State whose interest he represent as governor.

Ameachi further revealed that many people told him when he was defecting from PDP to APC that both the Yorubas’ and Hausas’ in the party would betray him with the intention of stopping him from leaving PDP.

He commended Alabo Tonye Graham-Douglas for standing behind him throughout the period of his travails.  “I though he would go the opposite direction, but he told me that as long as it has do with the interest of our state, I will be behind you not minding the consequence.”

Speaking during the event, the former governor of Lagos State, Tinubu, who described Amaechi as an agent of common sense revolution urged the new set of leaders that will take over the leadership of the country to take the wellbeing of the people as a priority. “The new leaders must initiate policies that would translate into the well being of the people,” he advised.
