Thee crisis rocking the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has yet to abate even as the National Caretaker Committee announced on Thursday the new date for its national convention.

The party had announced a sort of ceasefire from the camp of factional chairman, Ali Modu-Sheriff as the main backer of the renegade group, Senator Buruji Kashamu attended the meeting of the stakeholders called by the caretaker committee where the date and venue of the national convention was adopted.

Buruji and Ayodele Fayose, Governor Ekiti State who had been at each others jugular were also reconciled at the meeting.

The same day, the leadership of the party held a closed-door meeting with Modu-Sheriff with the hope of cementing the new found peace within the party.

However, the peace move seem to have collapsed as Modu-Sheriff on Saturday denied reaching any agreement with anybody or group within the party.

Speaking on the supposed peace move,  Modu-Sheriff emphasised that his group is still pursuing the various cases in court, adding that he will address the nation on the state of the party on Monday.

He spoke through the man he appointed Deputy National Chairman of the PDP, Cairo Ojougboh.

Ojougboh, said, “I have the express permission of Dr Ali Modu-Sheriff to inform our teeming supporters and PDP faithful nation-wide that he has not reached agreement with anybody, neither has he permitted anybody to conclude on any processes on his behalf.

“We are continuing with our cases in court. We respect the rule of law. Sheriff will address a press conference on Monday on the state of our party, PDP. Our goal remains to return the party to the people and stamp out impunity.”

The new posture of the Modu-Sheriff group has thrown spanners into the reconciliation work within the party as the Caretaker Committee had made observers believe on Thursday.

Ahmed Makarfi, had while addressing newsmen shortly after the party expanded national caucus meeting gave tangible hopes that the war is almost ending.

He said “we received reports of reconciliation. You can see by yourself our brothers, friends and associates, Sen. Buruji Kashamu. That is evidence of the reconciliation making progress and I can assure you that we will never foreclose full reconciliation with Sen Ali Modu Sheriff and others that may still be associated with him.

“What we want is an all inclusive PDP. An equitable, fair and just system in the PDP, where the right of everyone commiserate with their own level is protected and preserved.”
