Abuja – The Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) National Youth Movement on Wednesday protested at the Federal High Court in Abuja against alleged plot by Justice Okon Abang to assist Ali Modu-Sheriff, former national chairman of PDP, in scuttling the August 17 national convention of the party.

Modu-Sheriff who had been having a running battle with the National Caretaker Committee of the party over control of the party has approached the Federal High Court presided over by Justice Okon Abang with a view to securing a court order to stop the rescheduled national convention of the party.

The latest case was filed at the court on July 20 in suit no. FHC/ABJ/CS/464/2016, according to the youths.

However, sensing trouble for the party, the youths staged a protest at the Federal High Court in Abuja besides submitting a petition to the president of the Federal High Court calling for investigation of Justice Abang.

The youths said that the case in question was secretly filed with Modu-Sheriff procuring a lawyer to stand in for PDP in the case with a view to having a smooth ride in getting the much needed court pronouncement to halt the convention.

The protesters flooded ?the court with various inscriptions like ‘Judges should not be used to settle political scores’, ‘The court should not be used to destroy PDP’, ‘Plot by Sheriff to use the FHC to stop convention height of judicial rascality’, ‘August 17 convention must hold’, and ‘The chief judge call Sheriff allies in judiciary to order.’

In a petition submitted by the group to the Chief Justice of Nigeria signed by Ohazuruike Tochukwu, the national director of the group, the CJN was told that from the totality of three judgments already delivered Alhaji Ali Modu-Sheriff ceased to be the chairman of the party as all the judgments are against him.

The group urged the CJN to stop Justice Abang from making any pronouncement on the PDP convention but allow the Court of Appeal hear and deliver its judgment on the appeal filed by Modu-Sheriff on the judgment of the Federal High Court, Port-Harcourt.
