As the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continue to grapple with leadership crisis, the forum of Governors of the party has asked Prince Uche Secondus to revert to his position as Deputy National Chairman while the National Secretary, Prof Wale Oladipo takes charge of the running of the affairs of the party.
The decision was taken in view of the court judgement over the leadership tussle in the party which ordered  that someone from the Northeast should be appointed the party’s chairman.
The Governors also condemned in strong terms the attempt made by former Political Adviser to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Barrister Ahmed Gulak to install himself as the National Chairman of the party on Wednesday.
Gulak, Wednesday afternoon, stormed the party secretariat in company of his supporters to proclaim himself the party Chairman.
However, the PDP Governors in an emergency meeting on Wednesday night called to address the crisis in the party, issued a communique stating their position on the imbroglio.
They said the decision of the court which sacked Secondus from the office of Acting Chairman will be respected.
Gulak they said, took a wrong decision in declaring himself the party chairman, with a warning to him to desist from such illegality.
“We take cognizance of the judgment by the court in Abuja which ordered the acting chairman to vacate office for any other person from the North-East zone of Nigeria.
“Our party constitution has enough provisions for that and the necessary process has been put in motion.”
Chairman of the Forum and governor of Ondo State, Dr. Olusegun Mimiko, who read the communiqué on behalf of his colleagues added that “in recognizance of  the judgment the court gave, we call on the National Secretary to take over the leadership of the party immediately and that is in line with the provisions of the PDP constitution.”
In lampooning Gulak for having the audacity to stage the coup, the Governors said “the invasion of the party headquarters today (Wednesday)  by Ahmed Ali Gulak who reportedly assumed the Chairmanship of the Peoples’ Democratic Party is regrettable and condemnable.”
They added that the issue of the chairmanship of the party will be resolves very soon to enable someone from the North East complete the tenure of the last national chairman, Adamu Muazu, who resigned after the woeful performance of the party in the last general election.
“The appropriate organs of the party will meet soonest to elect a national chairman of the party from the appropriate zone” the statement added.
On the Wednesday Supreme Court judgment on the governorship elections in two states, the PDP Governors Forum expressed their pleasure over the verdicts.
“We congratulate our brothers and colleagues, Barrister Nyesom Wike and Engr. Dave Umahi over today’s victory where the Supreme Court affirmed their election as the Governors of Rivers and Ebonyi States respectively.”
