The Bauchi State chapters of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) have frowned at the inability of the state government to pay some teachers their outstanding salaries.

They, therefore, called upon the government to pay up all outstanding salaries of  civil servants and teachers as well as  promotion of workers as at when due.

Chairman of the TUC,  Mohammed Usman, his ASCSN counterpart, Dauda Katagum, made the call while briefing newsmen at the union secretariat.

Mohammed lamented that some of the teachers in the state and their dependants are facing hardship as a result of non-payment of their outstanding salaries.

“We want to call on the state government to settle some of these outstanding salaries of teachers in the state as they are facing hardship.  “The government should also review the salary of Directors and Permanent Secretaries in order to motivate them to carry out their duties effectively. “We cannot understand how workers who toil daily to keep the wheels of government functioning cannot be paid their salaries,” Mohammed said.

He further called on the Governor-elect, Muhammed Abubakar, to give priority to the welfare of workers in the state for more positive results in the civil service.

Also, the ASCSN chairman, Dauda Mohammed, described civil servants as the engine room of the civil service and condemned the delay in promotion of senior civil servants in the state.

He urged the government to look into the issue with a view of finding a lasting solution to it. He called on the state Governor to intervene in the pending issues in order to enable civil servants achieve their dream of reaching the peak of their career.
