Vincent Omohimoria, father of the 14-months-old Praise, is in a dilemma.

His biggest headache for now is how to get help from well-meaning people to correct the health anomaly that the toddler is saddled with.

Omohimoria, who works in the Benin office of one of the national dailies, has reached out to some people in government, philanthropists, non-governmental organisations, faith-based groups, etc, for assistance, but none has yielded fruits yet.

Details of an evaluation carried out by Professor Wilson Sadoh of the Department of Child Health of the University of Benin Teaching Hospital (UBTH), shows that Praise is suffering from a congenital heart disease (Hole-in-the-heart).

“The hospital said that my son’s life is at risk and that he is likely to have heart failure because of the hole in his heart. They also said the heart is failing very fast,” Omohimoria said tearfully.

Omohimoria said that the doctor also said the son would need to be flown abroad for corrective heart surgery and that the estimates for the procedure would come to about $10, 000 exclusive of airfares and accommodation.

“We have written letters seeking for support to Kanu Heart Foundation, Edo State and Delta State governments.

“We also wrote letters seeking for support to prominent Nigerians and all we are asking is for them to help us treat my son because I am a casual driver and do not have the money to fly him abroad for the needed corrective heart surgery.”
