The Nasarawa State Chairman, Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON), Alhaji Sulaiman Wambai, has appealed for workers’ understanding on the inability of local government authorities to offset their three-month salary.

Wambai, who is also the chairman of Lafia Local Government Area, made the appeal at a press  conference in Lafia on Friday, July 3, 2015.

He attributed the councils’ inability to pay workers their salaries to the nation’s present harsh economy, which forced the Federal Government to reduce the state and council financial allocation.

He said, “It is very imperative for us to clear the air on the

financial shortfall, which has grossly affected our local government

salary in the state. Let me take you to memory lane that LGCs in Nasarawa State enjoyed autonomy since 2011 from the federation

account,”

According to his, “In January 2015, the  financial situation

became worse  ?when four local governments could no longer pay their

salaries.”

He said that LGCs agreed to

Boost their income through internally generated

revenue.
