Officials of St David Mark International Golf Club Otukpo Benue State have assured that the 220 golfers and other guests would have a peaceful and blissful time at the Ojerinde Memorial Tournament.
The assurance is coming against the backdrop of skirmishes among the local farmers and Fulani herdsmen which is threatening the peaceful coexistence of the people of the state.
A professional and principal officer of the club, Joseph Harvey, in a chat with Independent on Thursday said from Otukpo that, “Ahead of the Ojerinde tournament we are putting all logistics in place to guarantee a peaceful hosting.
“We are expecting at least 220 golfers from across the country that will participate in the tournament; the need for their security therefore cannot be compromised,” Harvey said.
“David Mark Golf Club is a place that can host any golf tournament and the assurance of security is guaranteed; the course is in perfect condition for golfers to enjoy their game and the hospitality is okay too.”
Corroborating Harvey during the interview, one of Nigeria’s prolific professional players, Gboyega Oyebanji said, “Otukpo is a place to be anytime without security problem.”
Oyebanji, however, added, “Although, I appreciate the security problems confronting Benue State at the moment, but Otukpo has no such problem; the people are peace-loving and it will be so during the tournament and always.”
Interestingly, the Director of David Mark Golf Academy, David Mark Jr concluded, “Otukpo Golf Club is ready and we welcome everybody for the tournament.”
