St Mark Golf and Country Club, Akpegede, Otukpo in Benue State was established by Senate President, David Mark, to develop the community.

This revelation was made by the captain of the club, Hon. Owoicho Abel Anyebe, in an exclusive chat during Pa Mark Memorial Tournament.

Anyebe said that the Senate President did not just establish the golf course, but had also established a golf academy which admits Otukpo kids and youth into the game.

According to him, “The people of Otukpo and the entire Idoma nation are benefitting from this golf course established by David Mark.

“This is because the golf course is helping us in the development of the community and the entire Idoma nation not in the area of sport alone, also economically.

“During tournaments in Otukpo the hoteliers, petty traders, transporters and others make brisk business and the tournaments are regular every year.”

The captain said further, “I can tell you now that our kids and youth are making careers out of the game through the David Mark International Golf Academy. Interestingly, the academy is open to all that is interested in golf as a sport, it is free, no fee is charged.

“It is only in Otukpo golf course that somebody can train or play free of charge in this part of the world. So, it is a legacy that Mark has bequeathed his people,” Anyebe explained.

The academy has five kids, Ochigbo Samuel, David Alli, Job Obaka, Inalegwu George and John Alex all from the Otukpo community that will represent Nigeria in the forthcoming U.S. Kids European Championship in Scotland.

It is on record that PGA Nigerian number one and number two, Emos Korblah and Andrew Oche Odoh respectively hail from the community.
