Osun Police kill three armed robbers

Three notorious armed robbery gang who specializes in terrorizing the people of Oke-Baale in Osogbo, Osun State were in the early hours of yesterday shot dead by the police. The robbers were killed by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad led by DSP Adekunle Omoyele.

It was learnt that the gang had attacked the people of the area and police patrol vehicle was dispatched following distress calls. Some of the victims of the robbers, namely; Adeosun Kolapo ‘f’ (39), Kareem Adebayo ‘m’ (35) and  Owolabi Mohammed ‘m’ (25) sustained various degree of injuries when they were robbed of their personal belongings at different locations.

The robbers were immediately given a hot chase but they had to abandon the Toyota Camry car with registration number LND 847 AJ, golden colour, which they had earlier snatched and fled into the bush.

Meanwhile, as policemen were combing the bush they noticed an oncoming bus and a Lexus car trying to maneuver behind the bus being waved down by the SARS men for a thorough search.

In the process the robbers, now in the Lexus car, fired sporadically at the Police as they make an attempt to overtake the bus for possible escape.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mrs. Folasade Odoro (DSP) who confirmed the incident said that the robbers were pursued by the police to a place close to Egbeda where they engaged the team in a gun duel.

During the gun duel three of the bandits received bullet wounds and died in the process while others who escaped had bullet wounds.

The police recovered the following items from the car digger, knife, blackberry, assorted phones, laptop, criminal charms, male underwears, stabilizer, 36,000.00 (thirty six thousand naira only), rough naira notes, a driver’s licence belonging to the female victim, 3 ATM cards, one cut to size double barrel gun with 7 life cartridges and 5 expended cartridges.

Meanwhile, the lifeless bodies of the robbers had been identified by the victims. Odoro however urged the resident of the state to report anybody found with bullet wounds to the nearest police station for necessary action.

She also enjoined the people to make their distressed calls promptly saying the police is ever determined to respond rapidly.
