Some members of the host community to Fountain University in Osogbo have protested attacks on them by some thugs who were allegedly hired by the university management over land tussle.

The land in dispute was said to have been allocated to the institution by the state government but authorities of the university had raised alarm over encroachment on the campus by some indigenes of Osogbo.

But some families making claim to some parcels of the land besieged the state House of Assembly in protest on Monday as they asked the legislative arm to save them from incessant attacks by the hoodlums.

The protesting community led by the families of Olufon, Alawaye, and Alaajo displayed various placards bearing some inscriptions while chanting solidarity songs to drive home their demands.

According to the spokesperson of the protesters, Mr. Semiu Alajo, the case on the land tussle is presently in court wondering why the management would hire some thugs to beat and harrass them on the land.

Alajo said it was an abuse of court process for management of Fountain University to embark on the construction of the school fence alleging that the management hired the thugs to attack residents of the area.

He said the university is encroaching on their land and have started constructing a fence on it.

Addressing the protesters at the House of Assembly complex, the Deputy Speaker, Hon. Akintunde Adegboye appealed to them to be calm promising that the house would intervene in the matter.

Adegboye urged the parties to have faith in the intervention of the house disclosing that the university management and affected indigenes of the host community have been summoned to appear before the Assembly.

The Deputy Speaker then noted that activities on the land in dispute should halt until further notice.

The Proprietor and Board of Trustees of Fountain University had called on the state government to intervene on the land dispute.

Speaking during a meeting with Osun State Governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola recently, the BoT Chairman of the University, Alhaji Abdulwaheed Yinka Adeola said despite
that the university has a genuine Certificate of Occupancy (C-of-O) for the land; some individuals were building their houses on its

Also, the President of Nasiru-llahi Fatih Society of Nigeria (NASFAT) which is the proprietor of the university, Engr Yomi Bolarinwa had appealed to Aregbesola to urgently intervene in the matter in order to avoid crisis.

Bolarinwa accused some locals in the host community of hiring thugs to chase away workers constructing the school fence.

Governor Aregbesola had assured the university that necessary legal measures would be put in place to address the issue.
