Osun State House of Assembly has asked governing councils and the ministry of education to suspend action on the sack of tertiary institutions’ lecturers until the parliament was convinced about it.

Issuing the directive, Speaker Najeem Salaam, while addressing the lawmakers and staff of the parliament in his New Year message titled: “WE Have A Job To Do”, stressed that relieving workers of their jobs must not be treated with elusive reasons.

Salaam then directed that Permanent Secretary in charge of tertiary education, governing boards of the four tertiary institutions in the state, Rectors and Provosts of the two Polytechnics and Colleges of Education must appear before the parliament on Tuesday.

He reiterated that the Assembly must be properly briefed by the concerned stakeholders and be convinced on why the exercise must be approved, saying that further action should be suspended forthwith.

Earlier, Salaam has admonished the critics of Governor Rauf Aregbesola against playing politics with the development of the state, saying the state should not be brought to the ridicule, because of its debt profile.

He noted that it was obvious that the debt was incure to fastrack development of the state, not for selfish interest.

“We have to be careful on how we subject some issues to politicking, we can’t run away for the development of our state, because we are afraid of debt. Whereas, the rich among us are taking their wards abroad that was developed with huge debt to school. We should not make crime out of the genuine passion of the governor to develop the state”, asserted the Speaker.

Speaker further canvassed for support on the belt tightening measure that would trail 2016 budget, saying that the tone of the budget has suggested that unless the unexpected happens, the financial year would be critical.
