A former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Joseph Dosu, has advised the national U-23 Head Coach, Samson Siasia, to consider Golden Eaglets’ striker, Victor Osimhen, for the team. Speaking with New Telegraph on the telephone, the 1996 Atlanta Olympic Games football gold medalist described the recently concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer as a complete striker.

“I am not trying to impose anything on the coach (Siasia), but I am just advising him to consider the boy because he is a goal scorer” Dosu said. “He has good positioning and strikes with precision in front of goal, a big asset for any team. “With him (Osimhen), Taiwo Awoniyi and Kelechi Iheanacho in that attack, I am not sure any defence can withstand them. It will be difficult” Speaking further, the former Julius Berger goalkeeper said the invitation of the player would serve as a morale booster for him and the team. He stated further that it would not be out of order if the player was allowed to gain experience even if he would be starting from the bench.

Dosu has also thrown his weight behind the U-23 team to qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympic Games. The Siasia-led team is currently in camp for the African Olympic Games qualifiers in Senegal scheduled for November 28 to December 12. The Eagles are placed in Group B of the eight-nation competition with Egypt, Algeria and Mali in the same group.

Speaking on the chances of the team, Dosu said: “We have the players and an experienced coach in Siasia who have done it before. “They have what it takes to excel and qualify for Rio 2016 Games, all they just have to do is find a good pattern and work hard to achieve their goals.” The top three teams from the qualifiers will be representing Africa in the men football event of the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
