Deputy Executive Secretary of the Orile-Agege Local Council Development Area (LCDA) of Lagos State, Mrs Toyin Afuwape, has commended the maturity and professionalism displayed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) at the just-concluded general elections.

Afuwape, who spoke with Daily Independent shortly after casting her ballot on April 11, said INEC had indeed raised the bar of excellence in election matters in Nigeria, and as such, the commission deserved to be commended for a job well-done.

She identified the early arrival of materials and officials of the commission, saying the “INEC officials and materials were even on ground before the arrival of electorates.”

According to her, the issue of late arrival of materials and officials had always been a bane of the electioneering process, but that it was highly commendable that the commission had worked on the anomaly.

However, the council boss admitted that though the turnout was low, but the conduct of electorates, especially in her area, was equally commendable as they properly conducted themselves while casting their vote.

She also appreciated the role of women who participated well in the polls.

In another development, the Asiwaju of Oko Oba Land in Lagos, Chief Olalekan Olatunde Majiyagbe, has commended the level of security and conduct of electorates at the polls.

The community leader said from his observation, the election was peaceful throughout the exercise.

Chief Majiyagbe, who lauded INEC for a job well done, equally urged the commission to find a way of improving on the use of electronic voting system before the next elections in the country.
