Oriental Derby In Umuahia Ends In Draw

 Home side, Abia Warriors, forced visiting Rangers of Enugu to a 2-2 draw at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday.

The two sides entered the match with the Warriors looking to preserve their unbeaten run in the season while Rangers was also aiming to keep hold of the top spot on the table.

But it was the visitors, who drew the first blood in the 22nd minute through a well-taking shot by Bobby Clement. Abia Warriors responded through a spot kick when Ndifreke Effiong was brought down. The spot kick was scored by Uluocha in the 39th minute.

In the 34th minute, Rangers’ Chisom Egbuchunam restored the visitors’ lead through a well taking free kick. Raphael Ayagwe made it 2-2 in 67th minute, a result that finally decided the match.

With the result, Rangers dropped to second on the log with 11 points from six matches, while MFM, who defeated El-Kanemi Warriors 3-1 in Lagos, has moved back to top of the table with 13 points from six matches.

In other results, Giwa FC compounded the woes of winless Sunshine Star with a last gasp 1-0 victory in Jos. IfeanyiUba, with the full complement of their Brazilian imports, hammered Ikorodu United 4-I in Nnewi.

In the northern derby, Lobi Stars forced former champions, Kano Pillars, to a 2-2 draw in Makurdi. Niger Tornadoes survived Rivers United scare as the home side won 3-2 in Jos. Tornadoes led 3-0 before the Rivers side pulled two goals back to end the encounter 3-2.

Meanwhile, on Friday, at the Nest of Champions, Uyo, Akwa United defeated Plateau United 2-0.
