Members of the Oodua Peoples’ Congress (OPC), a Yoruba self-determination group, have declared war against those they described as the ‘marauding Fulani herdsmen’ over the attacks on innocent people and communities.

This was the resolution of the group at a general meeting held at Gbagada Roundabout in Lagos yesterday, where more than 1,000 members of the group from across many states of the federation including Bayelsa, participated.

This is even as the group has resolved to forcefully oppose the sponsorship of the grazing bill at the National Assembly, saying the position is not only an insult to the ‘collective psyche of Nigerians.’

They also advised the embattled leader of the group, Otunba Gani Adams to stop parading himself as their leader and to honourably resign from the position, accusing him of trading the organisation for pecuniary gains.

The national publicity secretary of the group, Mr. Shina Akinpelu, said Ayetoro in Ogun State, Oke-Ogun towns of Oyo State and Osun, Ondo, Ekiti and Kwara states, have suffered from the attacks of the herdsmen.

He traced the attacks of the herdsmen to many centuries ago when the Yoruba lands including the old Oyo empire was ravaged by the activities of the herdsmen.

“It is therefore an insult to collective psyche to hear that a bill being considered to allow or create grazing zones for this criminally”.
