LAGOS – Coach Adegboye Onigbinde, former Super Eagles Head Coach, has called on the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) to institutionalise a system for assessing coaches.
He made the call against the backdrop of the success recorded by the Super Eagles in its last two friendly games.
Super Eagles led by Coach Salisu Yususf on interim basis, beat Mali 1-0 on Sunday and also defeated Luxembourg 3-1 on Tuesday. As a result of the successes recorded by the coach, calls have begun for him to be named as the team coach.
But Onigbinde called for caution, asking the NFF to institutionalise a system of assessing coaches’ in the league that would easily allow for grading of the coaches.
“It is too early to ask NFF to name him as Eagles coach, when you consider the quality of opposition, I have some reservations. The NFF should arrange for more grade A matches to assess him.
“We need a system to assess performances of a coach and not just results. Results are very important, but not results only. The NFF should develop a system where the coaches could be assessed through their performance in the league
