One Dead, Several Injured In Lagos Tanker Fire

At least one person died and several others injured when a tanker, loaded with premium motor spirit, popularly known as petrol, exploded at Cele bus stop, along Apapa expressway on Monday.

Independent gathered that the tanker was moving towards Oshodi from Mile 2 area when it caught fire and spilled petrol all over the place, including the drainages at the bus stop.

Motorists plying the expressway were forced to divert to alternative routes in order to avoid the raging fire.

The witness said that one person died and many injured in the stampede that followed the explosions.

Ibrahim Farinloye, spokesperson for the National Emergency Management Agency, (NEMA) confirmed the accident.

He said that the tanker was carrying 33, 000 litres of petrol.

He assured that NEMA officials, fire fighters and police officers were on ground and on top of the situation.
