Omotayo, Bello Top ITTF Nigerian Open Qualifiers

Olajide Omotayo and Fatimo Bello have won the Nigerian Open that serves as qualifiers for the 2016 ITTF World Tour.
Omotayo, a former national junior champion was unbeaten at the two-day tournament to lead the men’s event, while Bello had to dig deep before beating national junior champion, Tosin Oribamishe in the final of the women event.
To win the men’s event, Omotayo thrashed Kazeem Makanjuola 4-0 to emerge the new national champion. The speed and skills of Omotayo were beyond Makanjuola in the match.
Bello had to rely on experience to silent Oribamise in the women final.
Beside Omotayo and Makanjuola, others that made the top four in the men are Oladele Kehinde and Akanbi Rilwan. In the women, Bello, Oribamise as well as Bose Odusanya and Nimota Aregbola completed the top four-finish.
The top four finishers have also secured their places at the 2016 ITTF Nigerian Open holding on May 18 to 22 at the Teslim Balogun Stadium in Lagos.
Over 106 men and 48 women took part in the qualifiers held at the National Training Centre of the National Stadium in Lagos.
