A member of the House of Representatives, Alhaja Ayo Omidiran, has commended the victorious national U-17 team, the Golden Eaglets, for their exploits at the just concluded FIFA U-17 World Cup that took place in Chile.

Omidiran, who was a former member of the Nigeria Football Federation where she was in charge of Women football, showered praises on the Emmanuel Amuneke boys who defeated Mali 2-0 to lift the trophy for a record extending fifth time. She said: “Our boys went there as one of the favourites and won the trophy.

The opponents were all out for our team and they were able to win despite the pressure. It is amazing.

The boys should be well educated on how to boost their respective careers at this stage.”

Omidiran also showered praises on the women U-20 team, the Falconets, for picking a ticket to represent Africa in Papua New Guinea in the FIFA Women’s U-20 World Cup. After recording a 2-1 win against South Africa in Abuja, the Falconets went to Johannesburg to again record a 1-0 win and qualify on a 3-1 aggregate score.

“I was not surprised because we have the talents all over the place in women football. I expect they will also do well at the world stage. That was the competition that produced Asisiat Oshoala,” she added.
