Why We Don’t Believe In Orthodox, Traditional Medicines – BCS

Archbishop Theophilus Ibeabuchi, spokesman of Brotherhood Of The Cross And Star (BCS), founded by Olumba Olumba Obu spoke exclusively with Chinyere Abiaziem on the beliefs of the faith group and some recent happenings in the nation.

What are the cores of the doctrines of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star?

In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, In the Blood of our Lord Jesus Christ, now and forever more, Amen. I hope you are christened and believe in our Lord Jesus Christ? I raised this question because I will like the scripture, and witnesses from the Holy Bible to guide our discussion in this interview. BCS believes that our Lord Jesus Christ is the Son of God. We believe in His promise that it was expedient that He goes so that the Father will send another Comforter who will live with us forever (John 14:16, 26). His work and responsibility to the world is to teach, sanctify man from unrighteousness and establish the Kingdom of God on earth which our Lord Jesus Christ asked His disciples to pray for in Luke chapter 11 verse 2, where the children of God will live in peace and love for one another in conformity with the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ.

How true is it that BCS doesn’t believe in use of medicine to treat ailment?

Did you hear or read that our Lord Jesus Christ or His Apostles healed anyone with medicines? Healing of all sorts of ailment is done by faith. When He sent the Apostle out in twos they acknowledged that: “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because He hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor, He hath sent me to heal the broken hearted, to preach deliverance to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind…” (Luke 4:18-19).

Some individuals and faith groups see as blasphemous the address of BSC leader as ‘The Ancient of Days’, ‘King of kings’ etc. What is your response to this?

That is their opinion. The scripture says: “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the spirit of God for they are foolishness unto him: ‘neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned” (1 Cor. 2:14).  The Bible witness is necessary because if you have not had an encounter with The Holy Father, our leader you will not know Him. The researchers, historians, academics, spiritualists, metaphysicians, projectionists, scholars of esoteric etc, have embarked on endless investigation about this deity without results. His qualities are love, peace, temperance, mercy and forgiveness, above all, holiness. He is recognised and known in all places as His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu, King of kings and Lord of lords. Remember, King Herod of Israel only acknowledged that his voice was like that of God and immediately the angels of God smote him and he was eaten up by worms (Acts 12:23).

Why did the succession of Obu (Jnr.) attract lots of controversies some time ago?

Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is the Kingdom of God on earth and its mission to teach, sanctify and spread the kingdom cannot be compromised or derailed by the carnal desires of men whose interest is not the salvation of the brethren. But thirst for money and power which is not given to them by God because: “A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven (John 3:27). The spiritual, physical and structural growth and spread of BCS has reached greatest heights since His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu was coronated The King of kings and Lord of lords. Note that you cannot make yourself a king; read Daniel 7:13-14.

Some still believe BCS is a cult, what can you say concerning this?
The New Kingdom’s message by Leader Olumba Olumba Obu in a book “The Great Commission” (1999) the Holy Father said “the news of this Kingdom is that, Brotherhood is not a church, prayer house, spiritual house, a private residence, secret society or a thing that glorifies man but is the sum total of all the creation of God and God has come Himself as was promised; to gather His sheep into one flock under one shepherd; In love, peace, and harmony. No war, segregation or sin exist and will dwell in a problem free environment”. It is a fulfillment of the scriptures, “the Kingdom of this world has become the throne of God…” (Rev.11:15)

A former devotee of BCS alleged some years back of how the 144,000 Virgins fan the BCS leader. What exactly is the role of these virgins?
Some persons who may be considered as psychopathic patients in the world are healed free of charge in BCS. Instead of returning back to thank The Holy Father as one of the 10 lepers did, they resort to blackmail to win sympathy. I also learnt that one or two opened their ministries but instead of growing their membership they are on continuous decline.
Now to your question, the 144,000 virgins are celibates in BCS. They must not exceed 144,000 in number. “These are they which were not defiled with women; for they are virgins. These are they which follow the Lamb withersoever he goeth…they are without fault before the Throne of God.” (Rev.14:4-50). It is not part of the Virgins duty to fan the Leader especially in the contemporary age of modern technology of electric fans, air conditioners and super air conditioners. I think part of this your fanning question has been answered in the Newswatch edition of 2nd September, 2002. If I may ask, where are some of those media houses that published negative and sensational news about us today?

Does BCS believe in rapture or the second coming of Christ as most bible believers do?

With all you have been taught you still ask rhetoric questions. You are told that the promised comforter is here. You have been told that his mission is to teach mankind, sanctify them and establish the Kingdom of God on earth. And you have also been told that the Kingdom of this world has become the Kingdom of Jehovah and His Christ and you still ask questions? All you need to do is to practice righteousness, change from evil ways to Godliness, holiness and love one another and all will be well with you. If you practice these virtues, will you fear judgment again? You become automatic citizen of the Kingdom?

Last Saturday a pastor reportedly went numb for trying to pull down a shrine in Ogun State, though the pastor refuted the report afterwards. What is your comment on this incident?
In the first place, I do not find it funny but the truth is that a numb man cannot speak and if he does, he cannot be coherent. Well, a man must be spiritually filled to battle against powers and principalities. If you are not, something close to this could happen to you. “Then certain of the vagabond Jews exorcist, took upon them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying. We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth. In verse 15 said “And the evil spirits answered and said. Jesus I know and Paul I know: but who are ye?” (Acts 19:13). You know the rest of the story.

How do you see the call for the sale of Nigeria’s public assets?

Nigeria has excellent managers of the national economy but they should seek the face of God to know if their actions, in the bid, to revive the economy will deny our children their national commonwealth or plunge our posterity into perpetual poverty and penury. But one honest truth about the performance of an economy is that it must upswing after a circle.

How will you describe the Brotherhood Youth Assembly (BAYA) held last weekend?

The programme was successful. There was platform for the youths to express themselves through seminars, lectures interactive programmes, talent hunt (which produced good results) and empowerment.

What is your advice to the national leaders and the masses in this period of recession?
I give endless thanks to our Holy Father His Holiness Olumba Olumba Obu who had earlier admonished Nigerians to exercise a little more patience with the government. He further urged the citizens to obey those in authority because they are powers ordained by God (Rom. 13: 2). In the same vein rulers should not be terror to good works. The Father wants those in authority to rule with the fear of God and that their policies must have a human face for peace and progress to reign supreme.
