THE Olu of Warri, His Majesty, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, has donated a giant solar powered water borehole to the Ekurede Itsekiri community as part of the activities marking his 28th coronation anniversary, charging the community leaders to ensure the regular maintenance and adequate security of the water project.

The Ekurede community Secretary, Mr. Henry Ani Olugbo told Daily Independent that the gift was a big surprise to them, saying that when they were asked to provide land for the project, they thought it was a joke because the kings does not give out such gift Just as he does not visit individuals but receives gifts from his subjects.

He described the gesture as the first of its kind in Itsekiri land and thanked the Olu for the gesture, noting that though other water projects have been cited in the community by various groups, many of them have ceased to function. He expressed hope that the new water bore hole project would be different since it is solar powered.

He said the community would remain to the royal father and charged other Itsekiri communities to remain loyal to the throne at all times.

The 28th coronation anniversary of the Olu of Warri kicked off Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Olu’s palace, Warri with a Praise day Service followed by paying of homage by various Itsekiri communities, stakeholders, government functionaries and companies operating within the Warri Kingdom ended Sunday, May 3, 2015 with a Thanksgiving Service held at the Foursquare Gospel Church, Aghofen, Warri.
