As reactions continue to trail the appointment of Sunday Oliseh as the new Super Eagles coach, President of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Amaju Pinnick, has claimed that Oliseh snubbed several ‘big countries’ to accept the Nigeria offer.

Oliseh was unveiled on Wednesday in Abuja, amidst concerns and criticisms over his lack of coaching experience. But speaking in the defence of the former Nigeria captain, Pinnick said Oliseh had several offers from ‘big countries’ which he turned down in honour of Nigeria.

“I can assure you,” he began, “Nigeria is not the first country that approached him (Oliseh) to coach their national team,” Pinnick said.

“A lot of big countries have approached him and I don’t want to mention those countries but he chose Nigeria.

“So to me it’s not just historic that he has come, it is biblical that he has come and by God’s grace he will deliver,” Pinnick added.

Pinnick had earlier called for support for the former Super Eagles captain, after his appointment came under intense scrutiny due to his lack of coaching experience.

Meanwhile, former Super Eagles striker, Kanu Nwankwo, has congratulated Oliseh, charging Nigerians to support him to take Nigerian football to the heights it belongs.

Kanu also thanked Stephen Keshi, saying he was a hero in the Nigerian football, havinghelped the nation win her third Africa Cup of Nations title in 2013, 19 years after Nigeria won her second title in Tunisia in 1994.

“Congratulations Sunday Oliseh, wish u all the best God will be with u. let’s give him support he needs to make our team the best in the world.”

“Thank you Keshi big boss good or bad you are a hero and legend. we all have to give back to Nigeria so let’s support and make our team the best.”
