It will be recalled that the Eagles failed to impress in its goalless draw against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in a 2017 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier in Dar es Salaam on Saturday.

Consequently, the Nigerian side sits on the second spot in Group G of the qualifiers on four points, two points behind leaders, the Pharaohs of Egypt, which won 5-1 against Chad in N’Djamena.

In the match against Niger, players like Chima Akas, Godfrey Oboabona, Usman Mohammed, Rabiu Ibrahim, Sylvester Igboun and Anthony Ujah started and made an appreciable impact leading to the victory.

Goals from Ahmed Musa and Simon Moses in both halves of the match gave the team a comfortable victory. The CSKA Moscow winger scored the first goal in the 11th minute through a penalty after Anthony Ujah was brought down in the 18-yard box before Moses increased the tally with a beautiful volley that went past Niger goalkeeper.

Interestingly, goalkeeper, Carl Ikeme, maintained a second clean sheet in as many matches after his previous heroic performance against the Taifa Stars of Tanzania in Dar es Salaam.

An elated Oliseh revealed that he’s impressed with the performance of the team and applauded the Taraba FC midfielder, Usman Mohammed, for his performance.

“It was only important for the team to win but to win playing organized, that is why I am happy for the lads. The Nigerians played very well and we expected them to toughen us so that we can see how far we’re evolving. But did we correct the errors we made on Saturday against Tanzania.

“Usman Mohammed really impressed me but I think he still has a lot to learn and I believe with time, he will continue to improve. I have worked with him for three and half weeks, I’ve seen the progression and I just hope that he doesn’t forget everything we’ve thought him when we come back again.

“It’s getting much better. I think we are better organised and when we go out to press, we do it better. “All we just have to do is to hold on to the ball for much longer and dictate the pace of the game. That is not going to take time hopefully.”

Meanwhile, the former Juventus and Borussia Dortmund midfielder insisted that the door is not closed for players like Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Vincent Enyeama in the Super Eagles.

“I will let Nigeria judge because all I know is that we will do our best to qualify for all the competitions. Mind you, this is a brand new team and I’m happy we won, which was a very good thing and good for the confidence of the team.

“I still believe there is room for Mikel Obi and Victor Moses in the Super Eagles. All I am just demanding from them is for the players to have regular playing times in their respective clubs in England. Today, everybody playing for Nigeria is playing regularly for their clubs and at the same time, they have shown the hunger to achieve. But then, Mikel and Moses must have to fight to get a first team shirt because other players have shown that they are as well good.

“Nobody is irreplaceable. I think Nigeria is the only nation that is irreplaceable. Since I retired as player, Nigeria never retired. Players will retire and Nigeria will continue to exist. So I believe there is still room for Vincent Enyeama, Mikel and Moses, who I am so happy he’s got his loan deal and ready to play.
