Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeayin Okowa, has promised that he would partner the Itsekiri to ensure a befitting burial for the late Olu of Warri, Ogiame Atuwatse 11, and a successful coronation ceremony for the Olu-designate, Prince Godfrey Ikenwoli Emiko, when the time comes.

Governor Okowa gave the promise on Thursday at the Government House, Asaba, when members of the Olu Advisory Council, led by the Otsodin of Warri, Chief Isaac Jemide, paid him a visit to formally inform him of the passage of Ogiame Atuwatse 11 and the emergence of Olu-designate.

The Governor who sympathized with the Itsekiri people on the painful loss of their revered monarch also expressed joy on the quick and successful succession process devoid of any acrimony, and prayed that God Almighty would grant the immediate family of the late Atuwatse II and the entire Itsekiri nation the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

He assured that though there is paucity of finance in the country at the moment, the state government would do it best to ensure a befitting burial for the late royal father and successful installation ceremony for the Olu-designate.

Governor Okowa further assured that all the roads at Ode-Itsekiri, the ancestral home of the Itsekiri people, would be constructed before the commencement of the ceremonies.

Meanwhile, preparations are in top gear to kick-start the traditional rites of passage for the late Olu just as Itsekiris now adorn the black and scarlet mourning insignia on the left breast side of their clothes.
