Former Super Falcons coach, Ismail Mabo, has blamed Falcons backroom staff for the team’s failure to reach the knockout stage of the ongoing FIFA Women’s World Cup in Canada.

The team placed last in its groiup with a point having lost two matches and drew one. Falcons drew 3-3 with Sweden, lost 0-2 to Australia and 0-1 to USA.

Mabo, who has coached the team to winning the Africa title five times and qualified it for its only World Cup quarter final appearance in 1999, said that Okon’s backroom staff didn’t help to read the match.

“The team was technically deficient and they’ve not changed anything during the intervals of matches that they have played most especially against Sweden.” Mabo said.

“I think before they sack him, they need to go back to the African qualifiers to check how much input was put into the team before he was able to qualify.”
