Ojota, Ketu-Mile 12 Robberies: Police Arrest Eight Suspects

Eight suspected armed robbers operating along the Ojota, Ketu and Mile 12 road have been arrested by operatives of the Rapid Response Squad of the Lagos State Police Command.

The suspects include John Obinna, Sunday Ugwu, Dapo Simeon, Chinonso Onnogo, Chuka Eze, Kadir Afolabi, Segun Pascal and David Bassey.

The suspects were arrested following a report by two female victims to the RRS that they were robbed around MKO Garden, near Ojota.

It was gathered that the RRS, which monitors Ojota followed the two women to the scene and arrested Obinna and Sunday there upon interviewing, searching and discovering suspected stolen items including phones and sim cards on them.

The arrest of Obinna and Sunday prompted the arrest of the other six suspects. They all confessed to have been robbing people at night in Ojota, Ketu and Mile 12.

In his confessional statement, Dapo Simeon, 27 -year – old native of Oyo State said that he has lost count of the number people that he had robbed in those areas.

The suspect who claimed he trained as a bricklayer told the police that he started out as a pickpocket more than three years ago before he ventured into robbery and specialised in stealing phones, jewellery and money.

“I can’t remember the number of phones I have stolen and collected from passers-by in Ojota, Ketu and Mile 12. I was trained by Olasege and later Femi. Both of them are my bosses, they live in Mushin, Idi – Oro area. They taught me the job,” the suspect claimed.

He mentioned one Baba Iyabo as his receiver and that he usually traded off the stolen goods at Down Blow area in Mile 12 very early in the morning.

A victim of the robberies who was traced by the RRS through a sim recovered from his stolen phone told the RRS at their Headquarters in Alausa that he was waylaid between Ojota and Mile 12.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dolapo Badmos, the police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the Lagos Command confirmed the arrests and added that all the suspects confessed to the offence and gave the police useful statement that would assist the Force in clamping down on others.

She said that the suspects have all been charged to court.
