The chairman, Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on transportation, Israel Jolaoso, has warned tricycle operators in the state to shun acts of hooliganism and join the state government in building a strong economic base.
He gave this warning on the sideline of the election of the Ogun State Chapter of  Tricycle Owners And Riders Association of Nigeria (TORAN) held in Abeokuta, Ogun state capital.
Jolaoso, noted that gone were the days when hooliganism thrived in motor parks and among road transport officials, adding that the state government considered them as partners in the bid to improve the economy of the state.
He added no economy could  survive without transportation because “transportation is the backbone of any economy and no economy can thrive without an effective transportation system.”
Jolaoso further explained that every sector should rally round the government in this period when the allocation to the states from the federal government has dwindled due to the drop in the global price of oil.
He commended ?the delegates for conducting a free and fair election without any form of violence.
“I am appealing to you to talk to the riders who drive the tricycles to be friendly with their passengers.
“Let the people of Ogun feel your impact and strive to take transportation to a higher level in the state.” Jolaoso stated.
Meanwhile, the elected chairman of the association, Mr. Morufu Ajani,  assured the residents of the state of the operators’ commitment to safety.
He charged other members of the executive to co-operate with him in order for the association to continue to support the mission to rebuild Ogun State together with the state Governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.
