In a move to ensure that road users  within the state have accident-free and smooth rides, the Ogun  State government, has begun the rehabilitation of a 20km  Federal government owned Ago –Ika – Adatan road in Abeokuta North Local Government Area, just as it has commenced the cleaning of drainages in Ijebu –ode.

The road which is being rehabilitated by the State Ministry of Works and Infrastructure according to a statement   by the Ministry’s Media Officer,   Mr. Ayokunle Ewuoso, was constructed 20 years ago.

Speaking with journalists after inspecting the level of work done at the Ago- Ika-Adatan road, the Permanent Secretary, Kayode  Ademolake ,revealed that officials of the Ministry would immediately begin repairs of the main entrance at the Sagamu-Benin road after the completion of the drainage clearing in Ijebu-Ode, noting that his ministry would equally rehabilitate the Ajegunle  township road in Sagamu.

“You will realize that in recent times whenever we have heavy down pour, there is bound to be damages on our roads and this of course made the government to make haste for immediate measures to be carried out on these roads so that they can be motorable.

What we are doing on these roads is what I can call permanent restoration; it is not going to be palliative. The materials that are being deposited at these roads are such that cannot be moved by water and you will realize that the road side drainages are been simultaneously cleared”.

He assured that government was still committed to the expansion of Ago –Ika Adatan road, adding that the road was undersized and cannot cope with the volume of traffic passing on it

“The Ago-Ika –Adatan road is part of what the government has in its programmes. Sometime ago, the Governor, cabinet members and some civil servants walked through the entire road to appreciate the deficiencies that we have along that road, definitely  it is undersized, it cannot cope with the volume of traffic ,so the idea is to actually carry out the expansion of that road to Ogun standard”.
