Ogun Assembly Seeks Improved Revenue Generation

The Ogun State House of Assembly has charged the State Internal Revenue Service to enhance its  performance with a view to providing prompt and efficient service delivery in revenue generation in the State.

Members of the State House of Assembly made the submission while taking on the Board’s Chairman of State IRS, Mr. Adekunle Adeosun during the 2016 budget defence session held at Oke-mosan, Abeokuta.

The lawmakers included  Oludare Kadiri, Israel Jolaoso, Victor Fasanya, Olusola Sonuga and Ganiyu Oyedeji unanimously sought for the blockage of leakages in revenue generation, strict monitoring of citizens’ compliance with statutory tax payment as well as identification of new taxpayers.

They noted that such proactive steps would lead to increased revenue generation to the State to fund all the five cardinal programmes of the State government.

Responding, Mr Adeosun said the agency which had been striving hard to remain outstanding revenue generation through its commitment to best tax practices in friendly environment would in next year improve tax revenue by 50%.

On the 2016 fiscal estimate, the agency proposed a total budget of N3.091b as its expenditure, out of which N2.281billion would be expended on recurrent, while N810million would be spent on capital projects just as its revenue target was put at N33.577billion.
