ABEOKUTA – The Ogun State Government has appealed to the Federal Government to sustain provision of adequate security in the creeks in Ebute Ibafo, off the Lagos-Ibadan expressway.

Governor Ibikunle Amosun also ordered that all the items seized from militants in the creeks in Ebute Ibafo, off the Lagos-Ibadan expressway should be destroyed.

The items include jerry cans, canoes and other equipment abandoned by suspected militants during the aerial bombardment of the area.

The governor spoke  during a visit to the creeks on Monday.

“I want to appeal that we should not just leave this place like that. Yes, the criminals have run away for obvious reasons but we have what I call a force beyond theirs. You know ordinarily they will come, even go to places here and do all sorts of crime.

“But when they saw the superior firepower of our military, they fled and that is why you see all these abandoned jerry cans and boats.

“We quickly want to implore that all these jerry cans should be destroyed, all their boats and all these things they used so that they will not be business as usual,” he said.

Governor Amosun said that the activities of the militants had resulted in wanton economic loss for the country and warned traditional chiefs and residents of the affected communities against harbouring criminal elements to forestall recurrence of the militant activities.

Independent recalled that in the last four days, the Nigerian Air Force had carried out aerial attacks on the creeks, believed to be inhabited by militants and vandals.

Amosun said that the aerial bombardment by the Air Force has flushed out militants from the area.
