FC IfeanyiUbah midfielder Onyekachi Nwaiwu has called on his teammates and fans to get behind newly appointed coach John Obuhas they chase a strong finish to the season.

The former Rangers handler was appointed to replace Bulgarian Mitko Dobrev who was fired on Monday alongside his crew after they lost their unbeaten home record 1-0 to Wikki Tourists in a Week 14 tie played in Oba on Sunday.

The Anambra Warriors are currently fifth on the log with 23 points from 14 matches on the NPFL log, Nwaiwu urged the players and supporters to back the former Flying Eagles handler as they push for the Nigeria topflight title.

“Obuh is not a stranger to us and his presence will help foster unity as well as challenge us to win the league title,” Nwaiwu told Goal.

“All he needs is for the players and club fans to support him so as to take the team to a greater height, rather than mount pressure on him.

“The team is blessed with a strong squad and I know he won’t have problems working with us.”

The team faces Heartland on Wednesday afternoon and he believes his side would bounce back to reckoning.

“Losing against Wikki was a painful peel to swallow but that is football for you,” he continued.

“We have learnt from our lessons and hopeful against Heartland, we will pull a shock towards improving on our rating on the log,” he concluded.
