Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has finally taken effective grip of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) following the succees of only his “anointed” candidates in the state congress at the weekend.

During the event at the Women’s Development Centre in Awka,  the state’s immediate past Commissioner for Special Duties, Sir Norbert Obi, emerged as the new state chairman of the party, with other  loyalists of the governor.

He succeeded the former Chairman, Akunwata Mike Kwentoh, who was said to be very friendly with the immediate past governor, Mr. Peter Obi.

Others, who emerged in the 28-member APGA state executive include Anthony Ifeanya, state secretary; Chinedu Nkwonta, publicity secretary; and Lady Chinyere Ibenta, state women’s leader.

With the new APGA state executive in place, Obiano had weeded out the unrepentant followers of former Governor Peter Obi; and those of the National Chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh.

During the congress, which was chaired by Ifeatu Onejeme as the congress committee chairman, there were no opposition, as the homework had already been concluded by the government in power before the exercise.

Kwentoh, while giving his valedictory speech, said that APGA created waves during his tenure as chairman not only in Anambra state, but throughout the South East states.

He tasked the new chairman to ensure the party captures the South East states in the next elections.

The new APGA state Chairman, Sir Norbert Obi, assured that he would not relent with his new executive until the party was taken to the Promised Land.

The past executive led by Kwentoh were brought in by former Governor, Mr. Peter Obi.
