Chief Victor Umeh, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) candidate in the March 5, 2016 Senatorial rerun, savouring the huge support he gets from large crowds that troop out to welcome him in his campaign tour declared Friday in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Council of Anambra State, that he has put the dispute between him and former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, behind but advised Obi to turn a new leaf by living blameless life.
Umeh has been welcomed to various campaign venues by enthusiastic crowd who pledged to vote and support him, though, he seems to be running besides himself in the race.
Umeh who toured the ten communities in his Anaocha Local Government Council spoke with journalists after the day’s tour and lamented that Obi was very busy plotting to undermine him.
He retraced the origin of his quarrel with Obi noting that he incurred the anger of the former Governor for suggesting that he conducted local government election so as to empower party faithful, a suggestion that did not go down with Obi.
Umeh who described Obi as his brother swore that he never betrayed him, instead, he had been the pillar of his strength through out his term in office.
He lamented that instead of Obi appreciating his assistance to him, “he developed a complex and felt all he would do is to clip me.
“But as for the March 5 rerun, Obi cannot stop me because God is with me and the people are behind me. You can see, even in Agulu, his home town, the people, including the traditional ruler, came out en-masse to welcome me. They said ‘we don’t know any other person except you’.
“Since 2012 Obi has been plotting my downfall. But God has been thwarting his evil plans against me because God knew how many battles I fought to sustain him (Obi ) in office.
“I don’t bear any grudges against him, but he has continued to fight me both covertly and overtly,” he said.
He described the people’s support for him in the race as awesome, and assured quality representation for them in the senate if elected.
At Agulu, Igwe Innocent Obodoako, the traditional ruler, recalled that he conferred on Umeh, his cherished traditional title of ‘Ohamadike’ because of his achievements.
Igwe Obodoako added: “Our ancestors have confirmed that you are destined for the Senate. Umeh has seen suffering for Igbo people and so God and our ancestors confirmed him as Senator designate. We gave him the title of Ohamadike. God will see him through and lead him”.
At Adazi Nnukwu, APGA state chairman, Nobert Obi said Umeh is straight forward. He said when Umeh gets to the Senate, the problems Igbo have in Nigeria would be solved.
Also speaking, Dr. Nkem Okeke, the Deputy Governor of Anambra State, described Umeh as a master strategist who knows and understands the politics of Nigeria and he will collaborate with Governor Willie Obiano to deliver.
Umeh while addressing party supporters at Nri, home town of his former rival Uche Ekwunife told the people that it is the wish of God that he will not be denied justice and hence the cancellation of the result of the election by the Court of Appeal in Enugu.
