The immediate past Governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi, has appealed to Ndigbo to unite.

Obi, who spoke in Lagos, pointed out that it was only unity that would lead Ndigbo to greatness.

He said, “What is important is how we can unite and build Igbo land.” “We are still quarreling and it is not good. Let us come together as a family.”

Obi, who is the incumbent Chairman of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), also dismissed the impression that Ndigbo lost out by voting massively for President Goodluck Jonathan during the March 28 presidential election won by Muhammadu Buhari of the All Progressives Congress (APC).

“What did we lose?” he asked, adding: “We didn’t lose anything. We gave support to the South-South and I am happy we did. May be it will make Ndigbo to come together,” he said.

On his rumoured plot to defect to All Progressives Congress (APC), the former governor said: “The answer is capital NO. I will not join APC. People say so because I attended the wedding of the Edo State Governor, Adams Oshiomhole; but Oshiomhole is a personal friend.”

Obi described PDP’s future as being rosy. “We will rebuild PDP,” he said. “We will compete favourably with APC in the next four years; we will match them. We will form a good opposition.”

The former governor described President Jonathan as a good man who willingly took a personal decision to concede defeat to Buhari in the interest of the country, dismissing claims in some quarters that he acted under duress from some world leaders.

Asked his immediate plans, Obi said that he would be away after the handover for one month to attend a course in Oxford University as part of his strategic plan to re-join the corporate world.
