Benin – The All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate for Edo State, Mr. Godwin Obaseki, on Wednesday promised to libralise issuance of Certificate of Occupancy, assuring a flat rate of N100,000 per certificate for all land owners in the state.

Obaseki, who made the promise at a town hall meeting with artisans and market women in Benin, also said if elected governor in September 10 election, application for C-of-O would be treated with dispatch for applicants to obtain it within 30 days.

He promised to discourage a situation whereby application for C-of-O takes months and in some cases years to be processed, adding that many landlords need it for some business transactions which is why the fee will be pegged for an amount that will be affordable by all land owners and it will not exceed N100,000.

The APC flag bearer assured market women that the location of fully equipped health centres in all the major markets in the state, especially those in Benin City, would be his first assignment as the governor of the state.

According to him, a trader in Oba Market who is on emergency or requires urgent medical attention does not need to be rushed to the Central Hospital or UBTH, rather such patient should be treated at the health centre within the market which will be equipped with the state of the art facilities and medical personnel.

On the current flooding of Oba Market during rainy season, he said the problem would be tackled within his first six months in office, pointing out that Oba Market is centrally located and any flood in the market will affects many areas therefore desilting of all the drainages would be given special attention.

Obaseki, who frowned at the indiscriminate display of cars by dealers in all nooks and crannies of the state capital, promised to establish a central car market where all car dealers in Benin City will be relocated and will also be provided with adequate security arrangement for the safety of the dealers and their wares.
