The Nigeria Weightlifting Federation (NWF) says its closed camping in preparation for the Rio Olympics qualifier in Yaoundé, Cameroon has been rounded off. George Aluo, NWF Public Relations Officer, said on Thursday that eight weightlifters had just completed the camping in Abuja ahead of the trials. The tournament, which will hold from May 5 to May 19,  is being organised by the African Weightlifting Federation (AWF). The lifters trained under the supervision of the head coach for a long time; so now that the competition is close, it is important to bring them together,” Said Aluo. He added that the lifters made up of eight women, were invited for camping based on their current forms, national rating as well as their international records. “This is not a jamboree; it is an Olympic qualifier that requires the highest level of commitment. We must be sure of the quality of lifters to represent the nation. “Apart from the fact that the selected lifters have been tested, they have proved their competencies at various continental and world championships. Their chances are bright,” he added. He said the lifters would leave the country on May 4 to enable them to acclimatise with the weather before the start of competition on May 5.
