The National Sports Commission (NSC) has placed Oyo and Ondo States on standby for the 2015 National Sports Festival (NSF) should the proposed host, Cross River State, continues the hide and seek game now ongoing between the state and NSC.

NSC Director General, Alhassan Yakmut, disclosed this in Abuja on Tuesday, saying that the commission was running out of time for both 2015 and 2016 editions of the Games.

He, however, said that the NSC would keep an open communication with proposed host Cross River to see if the incoming administration would continue what the outgoing administration was doing to host the festival.

The NSF was earlier billed for last month but the rescheduled 2015 general election and slow pace in getting the facilities ready for the Canaan City Games conspired to thwart the festival.

Yakmut assured that the Commission had taken preliminary steps to put the Games back on track, adding that the meeting of joint technical committee of the Main Organising Committee (MOC)and  all Directors of Sports from 36 States of the federation and the FCT would hold in a fortnight to decide the actual date and host of the festival.

“We are actually running behind time because we are now talking about not just the 2015 games but also the 2106 games. We are hoping that the meeting of the joint technical committee in a forthnight will find the way forward and come up with specific date for the festival”
