NSE Index rebounds, up 1.33%

Trading activities on the floor of the Nigerian Stock Exchange yesterday, returned to the positive trajectory with a gain of N155 billion.

The key market performance measures, the NSE All Share Index and market capitalisation, rose by 1.33 percent as market sentiments beamed green light to trade up in a positive note.

Consequently, the All-Share Index gained 344.9 basis points or one per cent to close at 34,520.14 index points as against 34,175.24 recorded  the previous day while the market capitalisation of equities appreciated by N155 billion or one  per cent as market sentiment returned to green territory.

Meanwhile, a turnover of 601.2 billion shares worth N4.2 billion in 5,724 deals was recorded in the day’s trading.

Insurance sub-sector of the financial services sector was the most active during the day (measured by turnover volume); with 205.4 billion shares worth N104 million exchanged by investors in 136 deals.

Volume in the sub-sector was largely driven by activity in the shares of Standard Alliance Insurance and Wapic Insurance Plc.

Also, banking sub-sector boosted by activity in the shares of Zenith Bank Plc and UBA Plc followed with a turnover of 174.8 million shares valued at N1.8 billion in 1,592 deals.

The number of gainers at the close of trading session was 26 while decliners closed at 21.
